Volunteer Meeting

Presidential Service Award

The Dunes Center is a certified organization for the Presidential Service Award program. To learn more about the program, check out the fact sheet. When you complete and submit your timesheet to the Dunes Center we will enter and certify your hours toward your award.

Adults 26 (and up)

Bronze - 100 to 249 hours
Silver - 250 to 499 hours
Gold - 500+ hours

Our volunteer program at the Dunes Center is crucial to our ability to fulfill our mission. Volunteers implement our education programs, operate our Visitor Center, and provide support to staff. We have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities, tailored for people of all ages, skill levels, and backgrounds. The Dunes Center is also a certified organization for the Presidential Service Award.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Bullet

Guided Walk Docent - Lead nature walks and hikes in the dunes for private groups or the general public.

Bullet

Visitor's Center House Host - Greet visitors, guide house tours and provide administrative support in our Visitor's Center.

Bullet

Environmental Education and Public Outreach Volunteer - Lead afterschool and/or summer education programs as an Education Intern or assist interns as a high school intern.
Provide environmental education and public outreach at community events. Share natural history knowledge with the general public at our Education Stations.
This volunteer position is available for all volunteers. Available internships can be viewed here.

Environmental Stewardship Volunteer - Work in our native plant garden weeding, pruning, and planting. Volunteer at community service events in the dunes, such as ice-plant removals, native seed collections, and beach clean ups.

Special Events Volunteer - Help with the planning and execution of Dunes Center special events, including the Coreopsis Cup Golf Tournament, Trees of the Season Gala, DuneQuest, and SummerFest.

Administrative Volunteer - provide office support by answering phones, filing documents, managing mailings, performing light cleaning, and other special projects.

How do I become a Dunes Center Volunteer?
It's really simple. Visit the Dunes Center for a volunteer application or download the application here. Return your application to the Dunes Center via hand deliver, mail or fax to 805.343.0442. Attend our next volunteer meeting.
